Republicans in the United States are in total chaos as they reject law and order in the United States. One after another has stated that Donald Trump should be “pardoned” for leaking, disseminating, and possessing the most top secret materials that he stole from the national government.

Scores of Republican elected officials and activists have sought to discredit the integrity of federal agencies that have investigated and charged Donald Trump, marking another step away from the GOP’s longtime positioning as the party of law enforcement.
Trump and many of his GOP presidential rivals have argued without evidence that the Justice Department has unfairly targeted the former president, even as some of those candidates also asserted Monday that the federal charges he faces should be taken seriously.

Reacting to Sen. Lindsey Graham’s attempt to dismiss the charges filed by special counsel Jack Smith against Donald Trump based upon the Espionage Act, one Florida prosecutor questioned the South Carolina Republican’s grasp of the statute and his legal acumen.
Appearing on MSNBC with host Ayman Mohyeldin, Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg slapped aside Graham’s defense of Trump who is now under the cloud of a 37-count federal indictment in a Florida courtroom.
“It’s crazy to see, Dave, that Republicans are running to Trump’s defense and making all kinds of excuses,” the MSNBC host prompted. “They are saying that, although he is charged with the Espionage Act, he is not actually accused of spying or hurting the United States. That’s how low the bar has become for Republicans.”
During a Sunday interview on CBS’s Face the Nation program, host Robert Costa noted that “many” Republicans are defending Trump.
“You say Trump’s alleged conduct is indefensible,” Costa told Barr. “What will it say if the party, your longtime party, puts him forward as their nominee?”
“The question is, should we be putting someone like this forward as the leader of the country, leader of the free world who’s engaged in this kind of conduct?” Barr replied
Most other prominent Republicans still feel like they need to defend Trump. Even Ron DeSantis is repeating the nonsense claims that our justice system is being “weaponized” against Republicans. The opposite is true. The US DOJ has bent over backwards to give Trump and other Republicans the benefit of the doubt when they shouldn’t have bothered. Trump is clearly guilty of his many accused crimes and here at Bluesplaining we will never defend anything that megalomaniac does when he is breaking the law, which is nearly every day.
But why are Republicans in power, many of them actual lawmakers and lawyers, still defending an obvious criminal? Has the Republican party completely broken with the law and now become a lawless party?
Whether it’s because of Trump’s power over them, or actual loyalty, or fears that his crimes will blow back on them, it’s not clear. What is clear is that they are cowards and will do anything to raise money and hold on to even a shred of power. It’s also possible that Trump is blackmailing many of them with campaign finance violation information or other things, and they are just afraid of being destroyed by him in public or on his failing social media platform.
