US Finally Allows Ceasefire Resolution to Pass at UN

The US has finally finally allowed the UN to pass a War on Gaza Ceasefire Resolution at the UN. The American vote was to abstain which meant the Ceasefire Resolution could pass. Whether this will lead to anything concrete like an actual ceasefire remains to be seen, but this development has already caused an Israeli delegation to pull out of planned talks with the Biden administration in the US this week. The sad murderous terrormongers in the Israeli government are butthurt that the US no longer backs their genocide so they’re staying home.

Unfortunately, even though this abstention vote allowed the resolution to finally pass, the US is still sending $3.3 billion of US taxpayer money to Israel for weapons and “security”. This is unfortunate because I’m an American who pays taxes and I strongly object to my tax money being used to kill innocent civilians in a horrendous genocide. Also unfortunate is that I have no ability at all to choose how my tax money is used. Also very unfortunate is that the US is no longer funding UNWRA, the main aid organization for Palestinians in Gaza, based on flimsy allegations.

From The Guardian:

The UN security council has voted to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gazafor the first time since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, after the US dropped a threat to veto, bringing Israel to near total isolation on the world stage.

The US abstained and the 14 other council members all voted in favour of the security council ceasefire resolution, put forward by the 10 elected council members who voiced their frustration with more than five months of deadlock between the major powers.

The text demanded “an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan leading to a lasting sustainable ceasefire”. It also demanded the release of hostages but did not make a truce dependent on them being freed, as Washington had previously demanded.

The vote signaled a significant break between the Biden administration and the Israeli government, and represented a long-delayed show of international unity on Gaza after more than 32,000 Gazans have been reported dead, thousands more are missing, and UN agencies are warning that a major famine is imminent..

 …

After the vote, Netanyahu’s office cancelled a visit to Washington by two of his ministers, intended to discuss a planned Israeli offensive on the southernmost Gazan city of Rafah, which the US opposes. The White House said it was “very disappointed” by the decision. However, a previously arranged visit by the Israeli defence minister, Yoav Gallant, went ahead. In Washington, Gallant insisted Israel would go on fighting until the hostages were released.”

I really want to believe that the passing of this resolution will lead to a ceasefire of this “war” but it seems that Netanyahu is merely going break with the United States and  go ahead and send the war criminal IDF into Rafah in Gaza. If this happens, the United States should cut off all aid to Israel. We should do that anyway, with what has already been done. We can’t stand for democracy and at the same time support Israeli genocide campaigns.
