Face Mask CDC Confusion

I understand people being confused about wearing face masks. Personally, I’m going to continue to wear them into stores until more time has passed and I feel like most people have been vaccinated. I don’t feel that is the case yet, and we are not yet at herd immunity. I have been fully vaccinated, but many people have not. I don’t really want to be mingling around with the unvaccinated hoards just yet in a crowded store or restaurant.

We have spent over a year watching sadly as the CDC has lost its credibility under the Trump administration. The former CDC director (Redfield) was a political hack who did whatever Trump wanted him to do. To be honest, I have never worn a mask outside. It never made any sense to me to be outdoors and wear a mask unless the pollen was really bad (I get lung infections just from lots of pollen in the air).

The new CDC director (Walinsky) is better than the hack we had last year, but I still wonder whether she has jumped into the non-mask-wearing advice too quickly. There may have been a bit of political pressure on her too.

For now, we should all do what makes us feel most comfortable and safe. This could change any day, especially if there is a new COVID surge after this new mask advice. The pandemic has been horrible and it’s awfully weird to walk around with a mask on, and I understand how people hate wearing a mask. But if we had had a decent competent president last year, this pandemic could have been over in six months or less and hundreds of thousands of lives could have been saved. Unfortunately for everyone in the world, Trump was a horrible president (and still a danger to the United States government) who cared nothing for human life. All I ask of other people at this point when it comes to COVID is to care about human life.
